23 of 35 Public Enterprises book profit in 2015-16

Out of the 35 public enterprises operating in the country, only 23 booked profits in the last fiscal 2015-16. The annual status update was tabled by the Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister, Krishna Bahadur Mahara in the Parliament. The PEs incurring losses are Nepal Electricity Authority, Udaypur Cement Industry, National Trading, Nepal Drugs Ltd, Janak Siksha Samagri among others. NEA alone witnesses loss worth Rs. 8.9 billion. Nepal Oil Corporation was the largest profit making public enterprise recording a net profit of Rs. 19.3 billion in 2015-16. Other who generated substantial profits are Nepal telecom, Nepal Bank Ltd, Agricultural Development Bank and Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal.
