KATHMANDU: The second Buddhist International Travel Mart (BITM) will take place in Lumbini from May 11 to 13.
The event to be supported by the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, Nepal Tourism Board and the Nepal Association of Tour and Travel Agents (NATTA) is being held to promote tourism in the birthplace of Gautam Budhha.
The event being held under the theme, 'Explore the Buddha Land', is expected to be attended by over 200 people including tourism entrepreneurs, Buddhist bhikkhus, representatives of Buddhist associations, tour operators and national tourism council representatives from over a dozen of countries including Nepal, China, Bhutan, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Myanmar, and Korea, according to NATTA President Ramesh Thapa.
There will be presentations on tourism promotion and potential in Nepal and in Lumbini, and 'B2B', a Business-to-Business interaction, will be held during the event at Hotel Pawan Palace in Lumbini.
The cost of hosting the event has been estimated at around Rs 16 million.
Lumbini Province Chief Minister Dilli Bahadur Chaudhary is scheduled to inaugurate the three-day event.
Buddhist International Travel Mart (BITM) is an annual marketplace of the Buddhist pilgrimage industry conceived by NATTA. The main objective of organising the mart is to explore the immense potentials that Nepal has in Buddhist pilgrimage tourism.
