3rd National Cooperative Congress concludes with 11-point declaration

KATHMANDU: The 3rd National Cooperative Congress was concluded on Saturday by issuing an 11-point declaration with emphasis on production, procession and marketing to contribute to the making of a self-reliant economy. National Cooperative Federation of Nepal (NCF) organised the 3rd National Cooperative Congress-2023 in collaboration with the Ministry of Land Management, Cooperatives and Poverty Alleviation (MoLMCPA). The declaration focuses on environment-friendly agriculture, import substitution, export promotion, employment generation and advancing public private and cooperative partnerships. [caption id="attachment_35112" align="alignnone" width="1000"] Photo courtesy: NCF Nepal/Facebook[/caption] Development of massive and exclusive productions through the specialised cooperative association, promotion of agriculture and livestock-related sector and establishment of mega-farms and development of value and supply chains are also included in the declaration. Speaking in the concluding session, former prime minister and CPN (UML) Chairperson KP Sharma Oli said that cooperative organisations are the saviour of economy in the time of crisis. He also said that some cooperatives have faced challenges for limited knowledge of their handling and asked to work for damage control from the cooperative sector. Oli suggested that the cooperatives should invest in agricultural production through integrated lands and asked the cooperative organisations not to expect grants. Likewise, another former Vice-Chairman of NPC, Govinda Pokharel, said the cooperative sector has encouraged the low-income community for their economic progress and made the market vibrant.
