47 climbers on Kanchenjunga expedition reach base camp

PHUNGLING: As many as 47 climbers have reached the base camp on the way to scale the Kanchenjunga. This is so far the first time this year when such a huge number of mountaineers have reached the base camp. The climbers reached the Kanchenjunga base camp through southern and northern trekking routes. Tourism Assistant of Kanchenjunga Conservation Area Management Council Tapethok check post, Kalpana Tammaden, informed that 36 mountaineers have reached the base camp through the southern trekking route. She shared that climbers who have reached the base camp include five Indian nationals, an American, three Germans, two Romanians, three Australians, three dutch and two Canadians. Some climbers who reached the base camp last week were making preparation for Kanchenjunga expedition, she shared. Likewise, six Romanians and five British nationals reached the base camp through the northern trekking route, shared tourism assistant of Yamfudin check post, Surya Man Rai. As many as 67 climbers have taken permission for Kanchenjunga mountaineering. The trend of climbers coming to the base camp is on the rise. Tourist mobility has gradually increased in Kanchenjunga area, said hotel entrepreneur Pema Sherpa of Faktanglung Rural Municipality-6, Ghumsa.
