KATHMANDU: Finance Minister Prakash Sharan Mahat has said achieving sustainable development goals (SDGs) is challenging for low- and middle-income countries.
In the G-20’s third Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors (FMCBGs) meeting that began in Gandhinagar, India, on Monday, Finance Minister Mahat mentioned that achieving SDGs in low- and middle-income countries is challenging due to a lack of revenue sources and increasing public debt obligations.
Minsiter Mahat said that per capita investment in the health sector could not be increased due to lack of resources.
The Finance Minister, through the conference, called on the international community to provide grant and concessional financial assistance and technical support to underdeveloped and developing countries.
G20 member countries including the USA, China, India, Japan, France and Russia, World Bank and International Monetary Fund, Asian Development Bank, Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank, have been participating in the conference.
Discussions were held on various issues including global economy and world health, sustainable finance and infrastructure development, international tax system and financial inclusion during the G-20’s third FMCBGs meeting.
Finance ministers from the Group of 20 Nations' meeting are poised to address critical global economic challenges, including the threats posed by climate change and rising debt among low-income countries. The conference will run till Tuesday.
Finance Minister Mahat is scheduled to return home on Wednesday.
