KATHMANDU: Agriculture loan fair will be held at Chitwan Expo Centre in Bharatpur Metropolitan City, Chitwan district from March 24 to 26.
R&D Innovative Solution and Nepal Agriculture Machinery Entrepreneurs' Association (NAMAE) will jointly organise the fair.
The fair aims to bring together the farmers as well as banks and financial institutions (BFIs) under a roof to promote financial literacy among farmers and to address the issues that have surfaced in the agricultural sector. Such a fair is being organised for the first time in Asia. It has been learnt that this kind of fair related to financial access in agriculture takes place in San Francisco, USA.
Various programmes including 'National Dialogue on Agriculture Financing' and a workshop will be held in the participation of agricultural entrepreneurs in the fair.
For the past few years, R&D Innovative Solution has been collecting the plights of farmers including difficulties they face while going through the procedure to apply for the loan. The company holds such national dialogues from time to time to extend farmers' access to agricultural loans.
It has been reported that 60% of the population in Nepal is in the agriculture occupation. The agriculture sector accounts for 25.8% of the total gross domestic product (GDP) of the country. Even though various tactical and structural provisions have been introduced for the development of agriculture, the import of agricultural products has increased.
Seeds, fertilisers, irrigation, technology, storage and market facility as well as financial access in agriculture are essential for the development of agriculture.
Nabil Bank and Agricultural Development Bank are the main sponsors of the fair being organised in partnership with Nepal Bankers' Association. Likewise, Shikhar Insurance is the insurance partner for the fair while Fonepay is the digital payment partner for the event.
The agriculture loan fair will be the main attraction of the fifth edition of the National Agriculture Mechanisation Exhibition-2022 being jointly organised by the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development, Department of Agriculture, Centre for Agricultural Infrastructure Development and Mechanisation Promotion, Prime Minister Agriculture Modernisation Project, and Nepal Agriculture Machinery Entrepreneurs' Association (NAMAE).
