Around 2,500 people rescued following Saptakoshi River dam burst

INARUWA: At least 2,500 people who were trapped following Saptakoshi River dam burst have been rescued in Barahakshetra Municipality of Sunsari district. Swollen Saptakoshi River gushed into human settlements in Barahakshetra's wards 6 and 9 after the dam burst at Lahurekhoch Dumribot in Belaka Municipality-8, Udayapur district today. Nepal Police and Armed Police Force jointly launched a rescue operation for those trapped in Sri Lanka Tapu. According to Sunsari's Chief District Officer (CDO) Indra Dev Yadav, around 500 houses are submerged in water as the river gushed into the settlement with the barrage outburst due to incessant rain. No casualties have been reported in the disaster. Meanwhile, Province 1 Minister for Internal Affairs Kedar Karki made a field visit to the areas affected by the river. A meeting of the Province Disaster Management Committee is scheduled to take place today itself to determine the measures for responding to the post-disaster situation. The meeting will focus on rescue, relief and rehabilitation efforts. READ ALSO:
