KATHMANDU: Ambassador of Chile to Nepal Juan Angulo met with the officials of Nepal Chamber of Commerce (NCC) in Kathmandu on Tuesday.
During the meeting, held at the Jamal-based Chamber Bhawan, various options for cooperation and investment between the two countries were discussed.
NCC President Rajendra Malla briefed Ambassador Angulo about the possibility of investment in tourism, water resources, information technology and herbal sector in Nepal.
In the context of 60-year-old diplomatic relationship between Nepal and Chile, NCC President Malla stressed the need to further strengthen economic ties. He said, "It has been 60 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries. We want to make economic relations stronger and more effective through public private partnerships. ‘
Mall also urged the Ambassador to take steps for the cooperation between NCC and the Chilean Chamber of Commerce in the field of trade and investment. Malla briefed Ambassador Angulo on the security of investment and returns in the field of hydropower and tourism in Nepal.
He said, "Nepal has recently made many policy reforms to protect foreign investment. In next year's budget, too, the government has announced that it will lease land for 50 years, and we are committed to securing Chilean investment. "
The NCC President said Nepal is a suitable destination for the production of goods that are highly in demand globally as land and labour cost is cheaper here. He opined that industry could be opened with the investment of Chile and sold in the markets of India, China, South Asia, Europe and America.
Ambassador Angulo also took stock of Nepal's current economic situation and investment climate. He said there is immense potential in the field of tourism in the Himalayan country. The Chilean envoy expressed his commitment to informing the private sector and citizens of his country about the possibility of investing in Nepal.
