FNGSGJA President Ramesh Maharjan passes away

Kathmandu: The Federation of Nepal Gold, Silver, Gem and Jewellery Associations (FNGSGJA) has expressed condolence on the untimely demise of its Founder President Ramesh Maharjan, who passed away on October 18. Maharjan was born in Pilachhen, Lalitpur, on November 23, 1964. He had taken firm leadership since the FNGSGJA was founded. With the solemn promise to make the jewellery sector a main foundation of the national economy, Maharjan organised the jewellers and other related associations across the country and established the country's first federation of jewellery entrepreneurs and provided strong leadership for the life. RB Diamond Jewelers Pvt Ltd established by late Maharjan, has become one of the leading jewellers in the country in the period of around 25 years. Maharjan was active in introducing Nepali original valuable jewellery and exporting them to the international market. He had been motivating other local jewellers for this and also drawing the attention of the Government of Nepal and the bodies concerned. Late Maharjan was Chairman of the Nepal Gem and Jewellery Council, Executive Committee member of International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), Nepal Chamber of Commerce (NCC) and President of Nepal Sri Lanka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (NSCCI). Moreover, Maharjan believed that only through cooperation within the private sector could the country prosper and was active in various bi-national chambers including Nepal-Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and Nepal-Myanmar Chamber of Commerce and Industry. His contribution in the field of social services was also incomparable. He established "Maya Foundation" and conducted skill and employment-oriented programmes for the deprived and marginalised communities. The "Reconstruction and Tourism Promotion Project" promoted by the foundation for the needy families who lost their homes due to the devastating earthquake of 2072 BS was adopted by the National Reconstruction Authority (NRA) as a "Master Plan" and announced to be implemented nationwide. Late Maharjan had become the chairman of Nepal Sambat Nhuda National Celebration Committee in 1140 BS and 1141 BS. His tragic demise at an early age has caused irreparable damage, the FNGSGJA stated in the condolence message. The federation has lost a founder and a skilled guide and guardian. FNGSGJA has also expressed its heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family of late Maharjan and wished the ability to bear the pain.
