Conscious Consumerism

A A- A+
Conscious Consumerism - some argue that it is a myth, some vouch for it as living with awareness and doing business responsibly. Wherever the argument may flow, it’s hard to ignore that there is growing number of conscious consumers. These are simply people who take extra interest in the ethical practices of those they buy from. It’s hard to deny that every time we spend our money, we are making an active choice to support and endorse a company, service, system or brand. We are also making an active impact on the environment and the planet. Retail manufacturing is considered to be the second most polluting industry after oil. And over consumption is a huge problem with people buying things that they do not even use six months after purchase…. food that is stored and thrown away, clothes, shoes, cosmetics, electronic gadgets, stationary, vehicles… and more. Plus there are many issues surrounding business that are not entirely addressed like equal pay, environment conscious manufacturing, counterfeit production and copyright, human trafficking, responsible farming practices and over production of goods. In today’s digital world, not many things stay under cover for long. And a person using a product made many thousand miles away from home will knows how it is done. But it’s not about being found out. It’s about being transparent and ethical in our practices, the way we work and the way we live. Everything in life has a price. But the true cost or value of any product or service lies in the hands of the consumer. A consumer enables the success or failure of a business ultimately. Yet people constantly choose to look the other way. We live in a world of either too much or too little. There are people wasting food and clothing and resources… and there are people who are dying of hunger and scarcity… and also there is an entire ecosystem that is being plundered and hurt by human greed. The price is often hidden to the naked eye but just a little thought, a little ingenuity, a little concern could make a marked difference to the planet we hand down to the next generations. Being a conscious consumer is just understanding the products we buy and understanding whether we really need something! Life will change irrevocably should you choose to think and buy each time… and all for the better!
