KATHMANDU: The Ministry for Land Management, Cooperatives and Poverty Alleviation has emphasized the importance of a long-term strategy to take forward cooperatives campaign as a credible medium for social transformation.
In an interaction held with cooperatives activists here today, Ministry's secretary Damodar Regmi said that they were trying to make the cooperatives sector well-cultured, regulated and law-abiding.
Regmi asserted, "Cooperatives sector that has been one of the pillars of the national economy is capable of playing an important role in building a socialism-oriented economy as envisaged by the Constitution, achieving sustainable development goals (SDGs) and bringing about good changes in the multi-dimensional poverty index."
He pointed out the need to take forward cooperatives with new thinking in a well-cultured way.
On the occasion, speakers univocally underscored the need of the hour to encourage disciplined and law-abiding cooperatives to stave off the negative tendencies prevailing cooperatives sector.
They argued that the federations and associations related to cooperatives should be active to put an end to the condition where all cooperatives were blamed for deviating from noble causes of eradicating poverty due to aberrations seen in some cooperatives.
