COSAN fixes minimum fees in courier services

A A- A+
KATHMANDU: Courier Service Association of Nepal (COSAN), an umbrella organisation of courier entrepreneurs, has fixed the minimum fee by signing an agreement with all courier companies. The minimum fee has been fixed to prevent unhealthy competition in courier service. According to COSAN, courier operators will now be able to charge only Rs 30 per kilogram and a minimum of Rs 25 per document. Raj Kumar Samari, General Secretary, COSAN, informed that the association will take action against the courier companies providing services at lower rates. According to Samari, an agreement between the COSAN and the courier service providers has been drafted on the implementation of minimum tariffs after holding discussions and consultations with legal practitioners. The agreement stipulates that a courier company will have to deposit Rs 50,000 at the association and if found violating the agreement, they will be fined up to Rs 25,000. It is stated that the association will monitor whether the courier service providers have complied with the minimum fee agreement. If a company is found booking at lower than the fixed rates, the company's service of delivering mailbags will be stopped by requesting the logistic companies to boycott. The company that does not implement the minimum fee will be blacklisted and their services will also be stopped. "We have entered into an internal agreement with courier companies with the objective of making this business reliable and systematic," said Devendra Khadka, president of the association, and expressed his hope that this will end unhealthy competition.
