KATHMANDU: Outgoing Finance Minister Janardan Sharma has claimed the economic growth rate will remain above 6%in current fiscal year 2022/23. At a press conference at the Ministry of Finance on Monday, Sharma shared that although the economy faced serious problems this year, it is now slowly recovering. He claimed that though the economic growth rate could not reach as targeted, it will remain above 6%. The outgoing Minister said, "We have set a target of achieving 8% economic growth rate in the current fiscal year. It is seen that the economic growth rate will remain at least above 6%. The inflation which had reached 10% at the beginning of current FY is now decreasing." Although the revenue decreased due to the government's restriction on import of some goods, it helped to reduce the trade deficit, shared the outgoing Minister Sharma. Sharma claimed that he took initiative to make the economy self-reliant, implemented different plans and programmes, remarkable progress in receiving foreign aid, and made Customs Clearance System systematic during his 19-month term. He expressed the view that the capital expenditure is now low, and it will slowly pick up the pace. Sharma added that the new government should move ahead with a new policy to take country's economy ahead with new speed. READ ALSO:
