Dahal sworn in as 44th Prime Minister of Nepal

KATHMANDU: President Bidya Devi Bhandari administered the oath of office and secrecy to newly appointed Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal. Dahal, CPN (Maoist Centre) Chairman, was sworn in as the 44th Prime minister of Nepal amid a special ceremony organised at Shital Niwas, Kathmandu. A total of 169 lawmakers from various political parties supported CPN (MC) Chairman Dahal in a prime ministerial bid. With the signatures of the 169 lawmakers, Chairman Dahal reached the President's office and claimed the post of prime minister. Chairman Dahal made the claim before President Bidya Devi Bhandari before the expiry of time given for making the claim on Sunday itself. Also the parliamentary party leader of the Maoist Centre, Dahal made claim as per Article 76 (2) of the Constitution of Nepal. Those to extend support to Dahal's prime ministerial bid are UML (78), his party (32), Rastriya Swatantra Party (20), Rastriya Prajatantra Party (14), Janata Samajbadi Party (12), Janamat Party (6), Nagarik Unmukti Party (4) and three independent lawmakers. Vice President Nanda Bahadur Pun, immediate past prime minister Sher Bahadur Deuba, Chairman of National Assembly Ganesh Prasad Timilsina, Acting Chief Justice of Supreme Court, Hari Krishna Karki were present at the swearing-in ceremony. Others present on the occasion were former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, CPN Unified Socialist Chairperson Madhav Kumar Nepal, former Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai and high-ranking officers of constitutional bodies, chief diplomats and mediapersons.
