Nepali Embassy confirms death of 10 Nepali students in attacks in Israel

KATHMANDU: The Nepali Embassy in Israel informed that 10 Nepali students died and one went missing in the terrorist attacks in various places of Israel.

The embassy held a discussion with the concerned Israeli officials and coordinated with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA), Nepal to bring those bodies home.

Those killed in Hamas attacks include Narayan Prasad Neupane from Ghodaghodi-4, Kailali; Ganesh Kumar Nepali from Jayprithvi-6, Bajhang; Ashish Chaudhary from Bauniya-3, Kailali; Dipesh Raj Bista from Lekham-5, Darchula; Lokendra Singh Dhami from Mallikarjun-4, Darchula; Anand Saha from Sapahi-6, Dhanusha; Rajesh Kumar Swarnakar from Madhuwan-1, Sunsari; Rajan Phulara from Panchali-3, Doti; Padma Thapa from Lamikhal-8, Doti; and Prabesh Bhandari from Sharada-3, Salyan were also killed in the terrorist attack in Israel.

The Embassy further informed that six Nepalis injured in the attacks were receiving treatment at different hospitals. Bipin Joshi from Bhimdatta Municipality-3, Kanchanpur went missing.

The MoFA has picked various officials as contact persons to help and facilitate Nepalis stranded in Israel. Nepalis in Israel can contact MoFA spokesperson Sewa Lamsal (9851310229), Joint Secretary Sharad Raj Aran (9844495858), Under Secretary Durpada Sapkota (9841403362) and Section Officer Srikrishna Silwal (9849179520). Meanwhile, Israel says it has brought in special forces to try to wrest control of four sites from Hamas fighters in response to the militant group's unprecedented incursion into Israel.

Israel formally declared war on Sunday and gave the green light for “significant military steps” to retaliate against Hamas for the surprise attack a day earlier. The Israeli military has tried to crush fighters still in southern towns and intensified its bombardment of the Gaza Strip. More than 1,000 people have been killed and thousands wounded on both sides.
