Coca-Cola Beverages Nepal hands over drinking water solution to community school in Chitwan

KATHMANDU: Coca-Cola Beverages Nepal along with an implementing team from Splash Nepal handed over the Rainwater Harvesting, Groundwater Recharge and clean drinking water project to Narayani Model Secondary School in Chitwan. 

The collaborative project which commenced in September 2023 successfully concluded on October 5, 2023, with a handover event held at the School in the presence of  Bharatpur Metropolitan City-10 Ward Chairperson Parmeshwor Khanal.

Catering to over 3,800 students including both day scholars and boarders, Narayani Model Secondary School is one of the largest model community schools in Chitwan where water is heavily required for day-to-day activities. Through the project, 2 UF Filter systems along with drinking water supply in 12 taps of bottle fillers and eight bubbler faucet taps attached to four water stations with dual spouts respectively have been installed in the facility. The system will benefit over 5,000 people including students and school staff. The expected volume of potential water recharge, through the project is 1.8 million litres annually.

Alongside, seven FATS (Seven Flag Approach for Total Sanitation) Programme was conducted by creating child clubs. The child club members were provided with training through the School WASH Programme. The goal of this programme is to help the school achieve 3-Star Status under a programme initiated by the Government of Nepal in rating the schools based on the WASH Infrastructure in the school. The programme will help the school achieve good results in the 3-Star Programme. Likewise, a training session for maintenance of the filtration system by the school was also organised.

School Headmaster Ram Sharan Duwadi shared, “We would like to express our profound gratitude to Coca-Cola Beverages Nepal for the unwavering support they have provided by installing a reliable and sustainable water supply in our school premises. This has made a difference in the lives of our students, teachers and staff. We look forward to continuous partnership with our organisation and hope to work together on more initiatives that benefit our school and community.

Coca-Cola Beverages Nepal Managing Director G Deepak Senthil Nath shared, “Water Stewardship is one of the key pillars of our sustainability efforts. We believe in giving back to the communities and nature wherever we operate and Narayani Model Secondary School is part of our community in Bharatpur where there is our second plant. We hope the water that will be recharged to the grounds and the drinking water that will be supplied make a difference to both nature and the students here- making the community more water resilient for now and the future.”

Splash Nepal Executive Director Pradeep Khadka stated, “The overall project will help students with easy accessibility to clean safe drinking water and also help the school achieve good results under 3-Star Programme. The commitment from the school in maintaining the system is a major component towards sustainability.”
