POKHARA: The Nepal Distilleries, producer of Khukri Rum, honoured more than 120 ex-Gurkha soldiers.
The Nepal Distilleries organised a grand ceremony in Pokhara on Thursday evening to honour the retired Gurkha soldiers who are synonymous with Nepali and bravery.
Retired soldiers who worked in the Indian Army, British Army, and Singapore Police among others participated in the programme.

The Nepal Distilleries gave special honour to Bishnu Prasad Shrestha, a retired soldier of the Indian Army who received various medals in India for his bravery, and Dil Bahadur Gurung, a retired Major of the British Army, who was awarded prestigious medals including Queen Elizabeth.
On behalf of the company, Janakraj Regmi, Head of Human Resources, honoured Shrestha and Gurung by presenting them with gifts equipped with khukuri (a knife)
Similarly, more than 120 ex-Gurkha soldiers and their spouses who participated in the programme were also given tokens of love.
In the programme, speakers discussed the bravery of Gurkha soldiers who made quite a name for Nepal and Nepalis in the world. They expressed that the programme organised under corporate social responsibility was important as the company has been producing the best rum under the name Khukuri, which is a symbol of the bravery of the Gurkha soldiers.
Further, Nepal Distilleries announced to provide full scholarships for higher education to two children of Gurkha soldiers who achieved heroism on the battlefield.
Chief guest at the programme, Chief of Nepal Army of Gandaki Province Major General Deepak Kumar Baniya thanked Khukri Rum for its new kind of efforts. He also praised the company's loyalty towards the Gorkha soldiers. He also shared that he sends Khukri Coronation Rum as a gift to friends and relatives abroad. He committed to cooperating with ex-servicemen.
Laxmi Bahadur Gurung, president of Gorkha Samaj Pokhara, expressed that the country has forgotten them, but Nepal Distilleries has remembered and honoured them.
He expressed his belief that the cooperation with the company has started and it will be heightened in the future.
Nepal distilleries also hosted a dinner for the ex-Gorkha soldiers and their families.
