Dhakal elected NEFSCUN Chairperson

KATHMANDU: Chandra Prasad Dhakal has been elected Chairperson of the Nepal Federation of Savings and Credit Cooperative Unions Ltd (NEFSCUN) – an umbrella organisation of savings and credit cooperatives across the country.

Dhakal secured 1,196 votes to emerge the winner in the election held on December 24. The 32nd annual general meeting (AGM) and convention of NEFSCUN took place in Kathmandu from December 23 to 24.

His closer contender, Paritosh Paudyal, mustered 1,019 votes. Newly-elected Chairperson Dhakal has been working in the cooperative field for a long.

Other elected office bearers include Damodar Adhikari (senior vice chairperson), Shanti Adhikari (women vice chairperson), Ghanashyam Adhikari (general secretary) and Deepak Thapa (treasurer).

According to the election committee, the elected members of the board of directors from women category are Sita Dhakal Poudel, Mandira Mishra and Kamala Devi Giri.

Among other elected members are Laxmi Sapkota (Koshi province), Shibha Kumari Raut (Madhes province), Khemraj Subedi (Bagmati province), Gopal Prasad Gautam (Gandaki province), Gyanu Poudel (Lumbini province), Bir Bahadur Raut Bhote (Karnali province), Dipti Shahi (Sudurpaschim province).

Likewise, Devkumar Shrestha, Sushil Kumar Basnyat, Shalikram Dhakal were elected as the board members from the open category,

Indraraj Jyoti Poudel has been elected the coordinator of the Accounts Supervisory Committee while Hem Raj Bista and Durga Tiwari Sanjel got elected as members of the committee.

Of the total 2,633 delegates, 2,200 cast their votes in the election to pick a new leadership of the federation.
