American ski mountaineer Hilaree found dead

KATHMANDU: American ski mountaineer Hilaree Nelson, 49, who had been missing since last Monday in Manaslu Peak has been found dead. According to Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Leelaraj Lamichhane at Gorkha District Police Office, the climber was reported to have disappeared from the world's eighth highest peak 8,163-metre (26,775-foot) summit on Monday and her body was found this morning. The body has been sent to Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital (TUTH), Maharajgunj for autopsy. Simrik Air's helicopter was hired to carry the body to the health institution in Kathmandu. Hilaree Nelson, 49, was skiing down from the 8,163-metre (26,775-foot) summit with her partner James Morrison when she fell off the mountain, according to Jiban Ghimire of the Kathmandu-based Shangri-La Nepal Trek that organised and outfitted the expedition. Hilaree had reportedly vanished from Bhimthang towards Manang. She skied down the Lhotse Peak along with Morrison in 2018. She had the record of skiing down two peaks above 8,000 metres. She was born in Seattle of US and was listed in the National Geography's list of adventurous athletes in 2018.  She successfully skied down the Cho Oyu peak in 2005.
