KATHMANDU: Officials of Nepal Chamber of Commerce (NCC) have asked for the Republic of Korea's investment in hydropower, construction, tourism, agriculture and small industries in Nepal. In a meeting with South Korean Ambassador to Nepal, Tae-Young Park, at Chamber Bhawan in Jamal, Kathmandu, NCC President Rajendra Malla requested to enhance industrial and commercial cooperation with Nepal. He said, "Diplomatic relations between the two countries are about to reach 50 years. It is necessary to further strengthen mutual cooperation through increased investment and business partnership." NCC President Malla urged the newly appointed Ambassador Park to create an investment environment in Nepal's hydropower, infrastructure, tourism and technology sectors. He also ensured the return on investment by saying that there is a high demand for Nepal's electricity in countries like India and Bangladesh. He drew Ambassador Park's attention to the need to expand the air network between the two countries. He said, "Tourism activities can be increased in both countries by expanding the air network. This will also benefit Nepali workers in Korea." The NCC President also asked the Korean ambassador to take the initiative to invest in small and medium industries including handicrafts. Currently, South Korea has invested Rs 12.81 billion in various projects in Nepal including service, tourism and agriculture sectors. This has created employment opportunities for more than 12,000 Nepali nationals. Likewise, 11,000 Korean tourists have visited Nepal this year. Ambassador Park pledged to further strengthen diplomatic and economic relations with Nepal during his tenure. He mentioned that all the products from Nepal are environment friendly and committed to taking initiatives to import such products to Korea. Ambassador Park said that he would take the initiative to hold a joint cultural programme on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the two countries to get to know each other more. Diplomatic relations between the two countries will reach 50 years next year. READ ALSO:
