KATHMANDU: Federation of Computer Association Nepal (CAN Federation) has opened applications for the 'National ICT Scholarship Awards 2079' for students.
The CAN Federation has been working on the development and expansion of information and communication technology (ICT) in Nepal for the past 30 years.
The federation has been providing scholarships for poor, disadvantaged, students with the help of colleges teaching information technology studies in the country. This scholarship has been initiated in collaboration with the Lord Buddha Education Foundation (LBEF), an iT college in Maitidevi, Kathmandu.
In 'National ICT Scholarship - 2079', one female student from each province will be given a full scholarship and the remaining 42 students will be given a partial scholarship so that students from all the seven provinces of the country will have equal opportunities. This scholarship programme which was started four years ago has been helping in the development of IT in rural areas and its accessibility to all citizens. There are currently 46 students studying under this scholarship.
This year too, 28 female students (four from each province) will be provided scholarships in Female Merit ICT Scholarship while under ICT Merit Scholarship, 21 students (three from each province) will gain scholarships.
As per the agreement reached between the CAN Federation and the college, 49 students will get a scholarship worth over Rs 19.55 million.
Those getting scholarships can study BSc. IT at Lord Buddha Education Foundation which is affiliated with the Asia Pacific University of Technology and Innovation in Malaysia.
Those who have completed +2 or equivalent with an aggregate of 50% marks from an educational institution recognised by the Government of Nepal or have obtained a diploma in computer engineering from CTEVT with at least 50% marks in mathematics in class 10 are eligible to apply for the scholarship. Students who are currently waiting to take the class 12 exam can also apply for the scholarship.
In order to provide scholarships, the CAN Federation has formed a student selection committee in coordination with the federation's Immediate Past President Hemant Chaurasia. Members of the committee include secretaries duo Shekhar Dulal and Dipendra Kumar Singh, and central members duo Sarita Singh and Bhim Malla.
Students interested in the scholarship have to apply through the website of CAN Federation or the website of LBEF before August 25, 2022. Applicants have to submit copies of mark sheets of class 10 and class 12 along with a photograph, citizenship or birth certificate and a recommendation letter from the local government. The online examination of the applicants for the scholarship will be held on August 26, 2022, and the results will be announced two days later on August 28.
"Through this scholarship, underprivileged students from the remote areas of the country will also be able to build their careers in the field of ICT and support the Digital Nepal Framework, which is in the process of implementation," CAN Federation President Nawaraj Kunwar said.
LBEF Chairman Er Pankaj Jalan said that the collaboration with CAN Federation, the leading umbrella organisation in the field of IT for this scholarship, will help reduce the digital divide in the country and also encourage other organisations for public-private partnerships in the future.
