NAGARKOT: Hotels in Nagarkot, a popular tourist destination on the eastern outskirt of Bhaktapur district, have been classified. The Food Technology and Quality Control Division Office, Dhulikhel has classified standards of the hotels and also provided them with logos accordingly. Of 30 hotels physically inspected, two hotels were classified as Outstanding 'A' standard, one hotel was classified as Best 'B' and four other hotels as Moderate 'C'. All these seven hotels were tagged with green stickers while the remaining 23 hotels were classified as Satisfactory 'D' standard and tagged with yellow stickers. Food Inspector Atis Ghimire informed that classification was made based on the applications received as per the Hotel, Restaurant Standardisation Directive, 2074, Annex 1. A team comprising office representatives, local representatives, hotel entrepreneurs and office-bearers of Nagarkot Naldum Tourism Development Committee carried out monitoring of hotels in Nagarkot based on 50 indicators of sanitation and hygiene. Hoteliers had made commitments to maintaining food hygiene. The hotels will be monitored after six months and if the improvement is not found in a hotel as committed in the progress monitoring its label will be changed to the lower one, Ghimire said.
