Priority should be given to modernising, commercialising agriculture: President

KATHMANDU: President Bidya Devi Bhandari viewed that the country could not pursue socialism oriented economy as enshrined in the Constitution until a self-sufficient economy is accompanied by replacement of imports. For this, the priority should be given to modernising and commercialising agriculture through the use of available resources in the country, President Bhandari suggested while addressing an event organised by the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation to distribute the 'Pushpa Lal National Award, 2077/78'. Similarly, job opportunities should be created through the expansion of industries using domestic raw materials, and production should be increased, the President added. "Political-economic system of any country is based on a certain theoretical concept. The Constitution aims to establish a socialism oriented governance system along with an independent national economy while getting economic growth through the maximum use of available resources through the public-private partnership". Stating that role of Pushpa Lal Shrestha in the country's democratic and communist movements was always memorable, the President wished that each generation could be inspired by him. READ ALSO:
