FinMin refutes allegations made by media regarding budget

A A- A+
KATHMANDU: The Ministry of Finance has said its attention has been drawn to the story published by Nepali news daily Annapurna Post. The ministry has refuted the allegations made by the media house claiming that the budget, and policies and programmes were formulated through unilateral decisions. Annapurna Post published a baseless story with the headline 'Madhyarati Budgetma Jaba Chukul lagyo....', according to the ministry. In a press statement issued by the ministry on Monday, it has clarified that the budget for fiscal year 2022/23 was drafted after holding official discussions on the government's policies and programmes with various stakeholders and experts. The ministry further collected suggestions from the general public while preparing the budget via a toll-free number and the ministry's website. The Finance Ministry in the statement further clarified that a team from the ministry including secretaries led by the Finance Minister frequently held discussions with stakeholders and consulted with experts while preparing the budget from mid-March. Likewise, to give a form to the budget, discussions were held with secretaries of various ministries, chiefs of various departments and divisions of the ministry, chiefs of the Customs Department and no others except for authorities. Further, the statement has urged media houses to abide by the ethics of journalism and not publish such baseless stories that cause confusion and even question the trust people have in journalism. The statement read, "At a time when economic development has to be expedited through the implementation of the budget, and government's policies and programmes, the ministry rebuts stories published in a confusing manner. Further, the ministry urges mass media to publish stories based on reality and facts." READ ALSO:
