KATHMANDU: Nepal Chamber of Commerce (NCC) President Rajendra Malla has said the private sector will collaborate with local bodies to create employment opportunities for youths, and for entrepreneurship development.
At a programme organised by Mahottari Chamber of Commerce in Bardibas on Sunday, NCC President Malla said the migration of youth to foreign employment has to be prevented by creating jobs within the country.
Malla expressed that NCC would like to work with all local levels to promote the use of natural resources and skills learnt by returnee migrant workers abroad for the development of youth entrepreneurship and self-reliant economy in the country.
Malla said, ‘It is necessary for the state to make policy arrangements to encourage the skills of the youths returned from abroad by collecting their data." He said the government has announced in the budget to provide land on lease for 50 years. Utilising this, An industrial village can be built by integrating the skills of youths. International companies can also be encouraged to invest, and the knowledge and skills of returnee migrant workers can be linked with the production, Malla said.
Malla informed the district chamber will cooperate on the marketing of sugarcane, fruits and other consumer goods produced in Mahottari. He said NCC will undertake an initiative to arrange a market with direct contact between farmers and consumers to end the middlemen rule in the country.
In the context of trade deficit in the country, the NCC President said maintaining the balance of payments (BoP) is the biggest challenge. Import and export should be managed to maintain the BOP of the country, he suggested.
The tax revenue policy should also be a single stream, Malla opined. He said the state should create an environment conducive to doing business as country's economy is being supported by the private sector.
