KATHMANDU: IME, Nepal's first and leading remittance company, celebrated its 22nd anniversary by organising a special programme in Kathmandu, on Sunday.
Chief Secretary to the Government of Nepal Shanker Das Bairagi, Finance Secretary Madhu Kumar Marasini, Secretary at the Ministry of Labour, Employment and Social Security, Eaknarayan Aryal; Executive Director of Nepal Rastra Bank Guru Prasad Paudel and others expressed their best wishes as special guest speakers at the event inaugurated by Finance Minister Janardan Sharma.
Confederation of Nepalese Industries (CNI) President Vishnu Kumar Agarwal, Nepal Chamber of Commerce ( NCC) former president Rajesh Kazi Shrestha, Migrant Expert and former member of National Planning Commission (NPC) Ganesh Gurung, IME Group Managing Director Hemraj Dhakal and Director of IME and Senior Vice President of IME Group Suman Pokharel also addressed the gathering presided over by IME Group Chairman Chandra Prasad Dhakal.
Khilendra Poudel, Chief Executive Officer of IME Limited, delivered the welcome speech at the function. Addressing the program, Minister Sharma lauded IME's contribution to bringing the remittance sector to the present state despite facing challenges due to hundi transaction that was taking place when the remittances were trying to enter the country through formal channels. In his address, Minister Sharma said that remittances have transformed the miserable life of the rural areas.
Addressing the program, IME Group Chairman Dhakal said that the company that has been established by people in foreign employment have created 40,000 to 45,000 jobs to serve the people who have gone to foreign employment. Dhakal said that starting from a small room, IME faced many risks and challenges in the past and now he and his team are happy to see that IME has become synonymous with remittance.
On the occasion, Chief Secretary Bairagi said that IME is a model of knowledge, skill and experience which has special significance.
Finance Secretary Madhu Kumar Marasini said that IME has improved the remittance culture, adding that one idea could change the world. He said that the IME culture has been developed in the villages and now it is important to convert the money into productive sector.

Likewise, Aryal suggested that the IME management set up their service centres in places where there are more than 5,000 migrant workers.
NRB Executive Director Paudel presented various data related to remittances and expressed his congratulations and best wishes to the IME family.
Migrant expert Gurung said he has known IME since its inception, adding that Dhakal brothers had established IME 22 years ago by taking the risk. In a context, he said that remittance services in countries including Africa have been copied from IME, and added that IME is the 'Father of Remittance'.
Likewise, former president of NCC Rajesh Kazi Shrestha recalled that he was reluctant to attend the inaugural function of IME 22 years ago but now he was happy to see their progress. CNI President Agarwal said that it was a unique example of entrepreneurship for a person who had run a small grocery in Chhetrapati in 1994 and today reached this stage in less than three decades.
Speaking on the occasion, IME Group Co-Founder and Managing Director Dhakal said Nepali youths started going abroad in search of opportunities and they needed a means to get the money they earned to their relatives. People's dreams are associated with the money earned by their sorrows, happiness is associated with it. He said that IME was born 22 years ago on this day to make that dream a reality, to turn happiness into reality and to make faith meaningful.
Similarly, Pokharel, Director, IME and Senior Vice President of IME Group, said that IME has been established as a trusted brand in honour of its effective service in the face of special difficulties in the country. Welcoming the event, IME CEO Poudel said that as IME completes its 21st year, IME has got the opportunity to establish relations in many fields. Further, he made a commitment to make relations stronger, deeper and secure to provide reliable services.
