KATHMANDU: Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) has welcomed the formation of a committee by the government to investigate disputes regarding the dedicated and trunk line of electricity.
In a press statement issued today, the FNCCI expressed hope that the committee would find a lasting solution to the issue. The organisation has also called upon relevant authorities and the government to reinstate dedicated power supplies to industries, emphasizing the industry's 'right' to have uninterrupted access to power.
The government has established a judicial body to investigate the matter, which was also a demand of the FNCCI, and directed the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) to restore power supplies to industries. The FNCCI welcomed the move by the Council of Ministers and thanked the government in the statement.
The organisation has expressed hope that no activities will negatively impact the private sector. Furthermore, the FNCCI has appreciated the government's sincerity in addressing the matter amid the economic challenges being faced by the country.
It may be noted that the Cabinet meeting on Tuesday formed a committee led by former Supreme Court judge Girish Chandra Lal and comprising the joint secretaries of the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supplies and the Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation. The committee has been given the authority to study the disputes regarding the tariffs of the dedicated and trunk line and present a report.
