Ncell celebrates a decade of recognising academic excellence at Pulchowk Campus, awards scholarships to toppers

KATHMANDU: Ncell, continuing its programme, awarded Ncell Scholarships and Excellence Awards to the top students of five faculties at the Institute of Engineering (IoE), Pulchowk Campus on Friday, as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). This marks the 10th year of their collaboration with IoE.

The faculties included in this programme are Civil, Electrical, Electronics and Communication, Computer, and Mechanical Engineering. The awards were presented to students at a ceremony at Ncell ICON, the company's headquarters in Lainchaur, Kathmandu, attended by IoE faculty and students' family members.

In 2023, a total of 18 Ncell Scholarships were awarded to top students from the 1st, 2nd and 3rd year. Additionally, six students who graduated with the highest marks from the five faculties received the Ncell Excellence Awards.

The Excellence Awards were presented by IOE Dean Prof Dr Shashidhar Joshi and Ncell CEO and MD Jabbor Kayumov. The Ncell Scholarships were handed over by Ncell’s extended management team members — Vishal Upadhyaya, Umair Mohsin, and Lena Keshari Kansakar.

At the awards ceremony, Ncell CEO Kayumov said, “At Ncell, we are honoured to drive this recognition that will inspire students to continue doing their best. We believe that empowering the next generation is a commitment to fostering innovation, progress, and positive change. Your achievements make us proud and serve as an inspiration for future generations. We believe that our support can shape the future of our generations and you are the promise and future of our country. I remember when I received scholarships for my achievements 20 years ago, which helped me become who I am today. This recognition will inspire everyone to continue doing what they do best. I also thank the IoE for their efforts in developing and shaping the talents for the future of our society.”

IOE Dean Prof Dr Joshi shared, “I want to acknowledge the achievements of our students, who have excelled in their studies and made a mark on the global stage. It's heartening to hear success stories of our alumni who are contributing significantly to the world. As we celebrate the success of our students, I'm reminded of the transformative power of education and the potential each one of you holds. I believe that your destiny lies in your passion and the pursuit of your dreams. To the recipients of the Ncell Award, congratulations! I am proud of your achievements. I am grateful to Ncell for their support to our students for the past decade.”

On the occasion, Prof Dr Joshi also felicitated Ncell with a token of appreciation for providing support through Ncell Scholarships and Excellence Awards to students for 10 consecutive years at Pulchowk Campus.

Bibek Khanal, a recipient of the Ncell scholarships twice and the Ncell Excellence Award this year for graduating as the top student in Electrical Engineering, said, “This award is a result of my hard work. It's not just financial support, but also a recognition that motivates students to do better. I thank Ncell and IOE for this collaboration.”

Benzeena Dhakal, a Mechanical Engineering student at Pulchowk Campus and a recipient of the Ncell Scholarships, said, “Ncell's contribution to the education sector is commendable. I'm proud to receive this recognition, which has always been a major motivator for me. As a student, we don't have financial freedom, and this scholarship can be used for further education. Thank you, Ncell.”

The scholarships and excellence awards programme was established in 2014 to encourage technical education and recognise talented students who have shown academic excellence. Ncell Scholarships are awarded annually based on the scores of the 1st, 2nd and 3rd year.

The 18 scholarship recipients include three top students from each year in Civil, Electrical, Electronics and Communication, Computer, and Mechanical Engineering, and three top female students from all female students of these five faculties.

Likewise, the students graduating with the highest scores from each of these five faculties, including a female student with the highest scores among all female students, were honoured with the Ncell Excellence Awards. Both the scholarships and excellence awards are worth Rs 100,000 each.
