KATHMANDU: Finance Minister Prakash Sharan Mahat has emphasized the importance of promoting export trade as the cornerstone of the nation's economy.

Speaking at the inaugural session of the fourth anniversary of the Federation of Exports Entrepreneurs Nepal (FEEN) in Kathmandu, Minister Mahat insisted that Nepal should concentrate on producing distinctive and specific goods rather than high-tech products.

He stated, "The future of export trade is promising, and the government is committed to creating an environment conducive to an export economy. Unique and original Nepali products are ideal for export."

The finance minister also pointed out that it's unproductive to discuss the South Asian Free Trade Area (SAFTA) without considering the potential benefits of a trade agreement with India. He added, "Exporters play a crucial role in economic growth, job creation, revenue generation, and the promotion of sustainable development."

Addressing the concerns of FEEN, he said the government is currently unable to promptly address their legitimate concerns due to the country's economic resource constraints. However, he assured that these concerns will be considered when circumstances become more favourable.
