29th edition of CAN Info-Tech to be held from Feb 8 to 12

KATHMANDU: Federation of Computer Association Nepal (CAN Federation) is set to organise the 29th edition of CAN Info-Tech fair in Kathmandu from February 8 to 12. 

At a press meet organised on Thursday, the CAN Federation provided information about the forthcoming CAN Info-Tech fair. This yearly event displays the most recent advancements in information and communication technology (ICT), promoting significant dialogue and strategic growth in the sector.

The primary sponsor of CAN Info-Tech 2024 is SPowerBPE, with HMC DAHUA as the secondary sponsor. The official name of this tech exhibition is 'S-power CAN Info-Tech 2024 in association with HMC DAHUA'.

The event is supported by a variety of national and international organisations, including the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology, Department of Information Technology, Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI), Nepal Academy of Science and Technology (NAST). International support comes from the Asian-Oceanian Computing Industry Organization (ASOCIO), WITSA (World Innovation, Technology and Services Alliance), and Toa Software Corp.

CAN Federation President Ranjeet Kumar Poddar expressed his belief that CAN Info-Tech will demonstrate the growth of Nepal's technology sector, contributing to the development of a Digital Nepal. He stressed that the latest technologies and innovations, adapted to local market needs, will support this initiative.

CAN Federation Secretary General Chiranjibi Adhikari emphasized that the event focuses on startups, young talent, innovation, and Nepali products. 

For the last six years, the CAN Federation, in partnership with Lord Buddha Education Foundation, has been granting scholarships worth Rs 20 million annually to disadvantaged students across Nepal for a BSC IT degree. This scholarship will continue this year and will be announced on the first day of CAN Info-Tech 2024.

Furthermore, the Nepal Robotics Academy, in collaboration with the CAN Federation, will unveil the Beta edition of the "Kanchhi" robot, a Generative AI System developed in Nepal, at the exhibition. A cybersecurity help desk will also be established at the exhibition.

The tech exhibition will include member organisations of the CAN Federation and various national and international ICT companies.

The exhibition serves as a platform for business growth and a showcase for new technologies, offering attendees the chance to view and purchase the latest ICT innovations.

CAN Info-Tech is set to be a hub for those interested in the field, providing insights into the latest developments and applications. It offers companies an unparalleled opportunity to expand their market reach, understand customer needs, conduct market surveys, launch new products, and foster relationships with customers. The event will feature interactive discussions related to IT throughout its duration.

This year's CAN Info-Tech will include branding, ICT accessories, product launches, IT career counselling, a startup and innovation pavilion, and a software pavilion. A special emphasis has been placed on promoting Nepali innovation, talent, and startups. Products and solutions developed through research and development in Nepal will be given priority, with free stalls provided for Nepali startups in the innovative and startup pavilion.
The KTAHO Digital Address System, a product of Nepali researchers Ram and Laxman, will be launched at the exhibition. 
In partnership with Mandala System, the event will be live-streamed online. Virtual participation can be arranged by registering on their website.

Over 120 stalls have been reserved for the exhibition, which is anticipated to draw around 350,000 visitors.

After CAN Info-Tech 2024 concludes in Kathmandu, the CAN Federation plans to host the fair in all seven provinces of the country.

Since its establishment in 1995, CAN Info-Tech has successfully held 28 editions of the exhibition.

Tickets for the upcoming exhibition can be purchased through eSewa, CAN Info-Tech's ticketing partner. The entrance fee is Rs 100 for the general public and Rs 50 for students. Entry is free for senior citizens, people with disabilities, children under 10 years, and group visits from government and community schools.

The CAN Federation has called on the government and its agencies, IT professionals, policymakers, expert groups, educational institutions, media workers, and the tech-savvy public to support CAN Info-Tech.
