KATHMANDU: The Federation of Nepal Gold and Silver Dealers' Association (FENEGOSIDA) has expressed concern over recent incidents involving the shooting and robbery of gold and silver traders in the country.
Gajendra Bishwakarma, a 65-year-old gold trader from Nawalparasi, was shot on Saturday. Bishwakarma, a resident of Bardaghat Municipality-4, was attacked by an unidentified individual while returning home. He was injured in the shooting and subsequently robbed.
In a separate incident in Itahari Municipality of Sunsari district, a man entered the Mahalaxmi jewellery shop at Dipendra Chowk. Posing as a customer, he asked to see a gold bracelet weighing 2 tola and 12 Anna, then fled with the bracelet.
In a press statement, FENEGOSIDA stated that such incidents have instilled fear among gold and silver traders, raising questions about the security of their businesses.
FENEGOSIDA emphasized that every citizen has the right to conduct their profession and business freely. They urged the government and security agencies to apprehend and prosecute the criminals as soon as possible. The federation also called on security agencies to ensure peace and security to prevent such incidents from recurring.
