KATHMANDU: CPN (UML) Chairperson and former Prime Minister, KP Sharma Oli, asserted that the cooperative sector plays an important role in the country's development.
During his address at the fifth national cooperative meeting of the Civil Service Cooperative Organisation Ltd on Monday, Chair Oli expressed regret over recent attempts to tarnish the reputation of cooperatives, despite their essential role in the development of a country like Nepal.
He urged all relevant parties to remain vigilant to rectify any anomalies and irregularities that have emerged in the sector, and to prevent any dishonest attempts to undermine the integrity of cooperatives.
Former Prime Minister Oli stated that there are ongoing malicious efforts to spread rumours about cooperatives, portraying them as enterprises for forgery and profit-making.
On a separate note, he emphasised the need to appoint a qualified and competent individual to the position of Vice-Chancellor at Tribhuvan University. He further stated that there should be no political power-sharing in the appointment of the Vice-Chancellor.
