ILAM: Four irrigation projects have commenced in the Mangsebung Rural Municipality of Ilam district.
The estimated cost for the construction of irrigation canals is Rs 23.36 million. Hemanta Rai, the Chairperson of Mangsebung Rural Municipality, initiated the construction by laying the foundation stone.
Bhupal Yonghang, Chairperson of Mangsebung Rural Municipality Ward no. 1, stated that these projects fall under the small irrigation programme. Upon completion, farmlands in Tobhang, Nangrung, and Kholagaun will benefit from the irrigation supply. Farmers, previously dependent on rainfall and makeshift canals, eagerly anticipate these developments.
The Swiss, Federal, Koshi Province, and local governments have funded these projects, with the local community contributing a 10% investment. The projects are set to be completed by July 4, 2024.
After the completion of these projects, local residents are hopeful for improved agricultural yield, particularly in paddy production.
The Small Irrigation Project, backed by the Swiss Government, is being implemented in Ilam to boost agricultural productivity and promote the commercialisation of agri-business.
