KATHMANDU: Impulse NGO Network hosted an event in Kathmandu on Monday, featuring the screening of the documentary film 'From The Shadows'.
The event aimed to highlight the issue of human trafficking and stimulate action against it. Students and teachers from Sunway College and St. Xavier’s College participated in the event, joining the organisers to address this issue.
The event began with a welcome address by Simoli Gautam Desai from Sunway College and Aakanchya Shrestha from St. Xavier’s College. Tatum Street, Project Manager at Impulse NGO Network, then provided insights into the organisation's work and mission.
Triparna Banerjee, Impact Producer of Filament Pictures, introduced the documentary. She discussed the film's role in addressing the issues surrounding human trafficking. The screening of 'From the Shadows' offered a portrayal of real-life stories and the challenges faced by victims of human trafficking.
The event included a panel discussion featuring Mariam Chandy Menacherry, Lipasha Shrestha, Meena Sharma, and Tatum Street. The discussion explored the themes presented in the film, offering insights and dialogue on the aspects of human trafficking.
Bikram Shrestha, President of Nepal Internet Foundation, delivered the vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to all supporters and participants for their contributions towards combating human trafficking. He emphasized the importance of collaborative efforts in creating awareness and driving change. Meena Sharma from the country partner Institute of Human Rights Communication, Nepal, highlighted the need for more awareness and work in Nepal.
The event concluded with a commitment from the organisers and participants to continue the fight against human trafficking and to amplify the voices of those often hidden 'from the shadows'.
