'Chamber Expo 2024' kicks off in Kathmandu

KATHMANDU: 'Chamber Expo 2024', an event organised by Nepal Chamber of Commerce (NCC), started today in Bhrikutimandap, Kathmandu. 

Newly appointed Minister for Labour, Employment and Social Security Dol Prasad Aryal inaugurated the seventh edition of the expo. The event aims to promote local products and enhance trade.

The grand exhibition displays various items, including agricultural materials, products from small and cottage industries, and handicrafts. It also showcases real estate, food and beverages, clothing, textbooks, books, vehicles, construction materials, electrical appliances, and other consumer goods.

During the opening ceremony of the expo, NCC President Rajendra Malla mentioned that the event was organised to stimulate the economy and expand business activities in the face of economic challenges. He said, "The country's economy is slowly progressing, and the investment environment is yet to be established. We hope that the expo will somewhat boost economic activity."

He also stated that the expo aims to promote the market for locally produced products, including agricultural and handicraft items, and to expand the economic activities of small entrepreneurs.

At the opening ceremony, Minister Aryal highlighted the government's sensitivity to the current state of the economy and acknowledged the important role of the private sector in the country's economic development.

The Chamber Expo, organised in collaboration with the Trade and Export Promotion Centre under the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supplies, features more than 160 stalls from national and international companies.

Traders from Nepal, India, South Korea, Bangladesh, and Pakistan are participating in the five-day expo, which will run until the following Monday.
