KATHMANDU: Finance Minister Barshaman Pun has urged US investors to participate in the upcoming Nepal Investment Summit, scheduled for April.
In a meeting with US Ambassador to Nepal, Dean R Thompson, at the Ministry of Finance today, Minister Pun called on the US Envoy to create a conducive environment to ensure increased participation from US investors.
Asserting that Nepal provides a favourable environment for foreign investors, Minister Pun expressed the government's readiness to ensure legal and practical facilitation. "Nepal is an untapped land for international investors. I would like to urge for the participation of an increasing number of US investors in the Investment Summit through you," added Finance Minister Pun.
Furthermore, the Finance Minister highlighted that the agriculture, industry, and information technology sectors in Nepal hold substantial potential for investment.
In response, the US Ambassador conveyed that US investors are keen to participate in the forthcoming Nepal Investment Summit and pledged to foster an enabling environment for the participation of US investors in Nepal.
On a separate note, the US Ambassador expressed confidence that the tasks of the transitional justice and peace process will be concluded soon.
During the meeting, Ambassador Thompson stated that the US government is prepared to extend economic assistance to Nepal and pledged continued development support from the US side.
Additionally, he expressed his concerns about the timely completion of the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) projects.
