KATHMANDU: Ministry of Finance (MoF) has invited the agitating microfinance institution victims struggle committee for a dialogue.

At the behest of Finance Minister Barshaman Pun, the MoF has invited the committee's representatives to engage in discussions at the Finance Ministry this coming Friday.

A committee, led by Joint Secretary and Head of the Financial Sector Management and Cooperation Coordination Division of MoF, Narayan Prasad Risal, invited the representatives of the struggle committee for the talks, as per the Secretariat of Finance Minister Pun.

The talks committee comprises Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Narayan Prasad Bhattarai; Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliament Affairs, Jhaindra Guragain; and a representative from Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB).

Finance Minister Pun has tasked the talks committee with engaging in discussions with the struggle committee and submitting a report outlining measures to address their demands.

The MoF had previously instructed the operators of microfinance institutions to refrain from using any force against borrowers until a solution to the issue is identified.

The ministry had also called upon the relevant bodies to investigate any microfinance institutions that are operating in violation of existing laws, policies, and directives issued by the NRB, to bring them within the scope of the law.
