SINGAPORE: Singapore's total employment rose by 88,400 in 2023, which included 83,500 non-residents and 4,900 residents, as per a labour market report issued by the Ministry of Manpower on Thursday.
The majority of the new roles for non-Singapore residents were within the construction and manufacturing sectors, whilst the growth in resident employment was observed in higher-paying sectors such as financial services.
As of December 2023, the number of employed individuals in Singapore surpassed 3.7 million, excluding migrant domestic workers, according to the report.
The total number of retrenchments in 2023 escalated to 14,590, up from 6,440 in 2022. The long-term unemployment rate remained stable at 0.7%.
