KATHMANDU: The 25th edition of the Flora Expo kicked off in Bhrikutimandap, Kathmandu on Thursday.

The event, organised by Floriculture Association Nepal (FAN) and the Floriculture Development Center, will continue until March 17.

FAN President Min Bahadur Tamang revealed that the four-day expo features a total of 73 stalls, including 60 commercial ones, three dedicated to landscaping, eight official, and others. The organisers anticipate approximately 50,000 visitors and business transactions worth Rs 10 million at the Expo.

The FAN stated that Nepal has achieved self-sufficiency in flower production for most of the year, with the exception of the Tihar festival. As the demand for flowers has grown, flower production and farming have expanded to 43 districts in the country, including Kathmandu, Lalitpur, Bhaktapur, Kaski, Chitwan, Makawanpur, Kavre, Gulmi, Palpa, Dhading, Morang, and others.

Nepal cultivates around 450 species of flowers, and the annual market value of this business exceeds Rs 3 billion.
