A joint collaboration between BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences and Health Directorate, Koshi Provincial Government, will bring telemedicine services to district hospitals in Sankhuwasabha, Bhojpur, Khotang, Okhaldhunga, and Taplejung districts. The program was inaugurated today by Pradeep Kumar Sunuwar, Minister for Health; Koshi Province, during a program held at the Institute.
The program aims to develop the Institute as a hub hospital and provide specialist services that are currently unavailable in the mentioned district hospitals. Through this telemedicine program, patients will be able to connect with specialist doctors from the Institute through healthcare workers in their respective district hospitals.
Speaking at the inaugural ceremony, Dr. Jagat Narayan Prasad, Hospital Director of BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences, highlighted that the telemedicine program is expanding the Institute's specialist services to healthcare institutions across the province. Gyana Bahadur Katwal, Director of the Koshi Provincial Health Directorate, discussed the effectiveness of the telemedicine program and expressed the provincial government's desire to collaborate with stakeholders for the expansion of healthcare services.
Additionally, Dr. Narendra Bhatta, Focal Person for e-Health and Telemedicine programs at the Institute, shared his views on the program's effectiveness and sustainability. Dr. Prameshwar Prasad Gupta, Medical Coordinator of the telemedicine program, also spoke about the pioneering work the Institute has done in the field of digital health through its telemedicine programs.
