5 receive the Skill Hero Award on the Closing Ceremony of Skill Week 2024

KATHMANDU: Skill Week 2024 ended with a closing ceremony held at The Soaltee Kathmandu on Monday. The fifth edition of Skill Week was organized by Glocal After School, an entity of Glocal Pvt Ltd, which aim to collaborate with Industry, Educators, and Government to engage and promote extensive skilling opportunities and showcase emerging skills. The ceremony had Indira Rana Magar, Deputy Speaker, House of Representatives as the Chief Guest. 

Skill Week conducted workshops related to diverse skills, skill-focused competitions, skill shows and exhibitions, the learning hub, and sessions. The fifth edition of skill week was held from 31st March to 8th April, and different experts from these fields were invited to impart their knowledge to the youth.

Skill Week comprised of a series of Workshops, Competitions, Exhibitions, Job & Career Fair, Food and Games, Case Study Presentation, Music, and Concerts.

The event highlighted five distinct skill areas for the award of Skill Hero by Glocal After School.

For the first pillar i.e. Art & Culture, Madan Krishna Shrestha and Hari Bansha Acharya (actors extraordinaire) were awarded.

Narottam Aryal, Executive Director at King’s College was awarded as Skill Hero in the category Entrepreneurship.

For the category – Tourism & Hospitality, Chhaya Sharma, Founder & Chairperson, Nepal College of Travel and Tourism Management, was awarded.

In the category Science & Technology, Dr. Bhagawan Koirala was awarded. Dr. Koirala is a Cardiothoracic surgeon, professor and Social worker.

This year, the Apprenticeship theme was introduced, for which Puspa Chaudhary was awarded for her exceptional dedication to learning during industry-based training. As a young woman from the Tharu community, she is challenging the stereotype that women are only confined to cooking within the household by showcasing her ability to serve numerous guests in the hotel. 

Glocal Pvt. Ltd. also successfully concluded the ninth edition of ‘CEO Unplugged’ in 2024 on the same day at The Soaltee Kathmandu. With the main theme of ‘Today Meets Tomorrow’, 7 entrepreneurs, 2 moderators, bureaucrats, and diplomats of the country marked their presence as the speakers on this year’s CEO Unplugged.

There were two-panel discussions, titled The World of Work - Building a Resilient Future for Youth in Nepal & Strategic Alliance for Greater Impact. The first panel explored into the intricate landscape of sustaining Nepal's young workforce by forging robust public-private partnerships and engaging civil society organizations to collectively address systemic barriers hindering youth employment, thereby fostering inclusive growth and steering Nepal towards a resilient and prosperous future. The second panel talked about how working together can make a big difference in solving problems. The discussion also looks at how to make collaboration & partnerships even better so they can develop best practices as a part of strategic alliance.
