KATHMANDU: Thamel Tourism Development Council has declared the initiation of 24/7 business operations in Thamel and Durbarmarg areas, beginning on April 13, coinciding with the Nepali New Year 2081. The chairperson, Bhabiswor Sharma, confirmed that all the arrangements required to enable this significant change in operation hours have been completed.
The District Administration Office, Kathmandu has been given charge of the area and it's general management and security upkeep. The newly authorized nighttime commercial operations will be upheld by extensive security measures, Assistant Chief District Officer Hari Prasad Sharma stated. These actions follow suggestions from various stakeholders to ensure compliance with safety procedures.
Every marketplace associated with tourism, such as clubs, dance venues, and discos, are scheduled to remain open throughout the night. Chairperson Sharma clarified that, the extension of operating hours applies to all sections of Thamel, except for Bhagawanbahal. This decision was made after careful planning and agreement with relevant stakeholders. Any business that does not meet the criteria outlined in the code of conduct will be shut down starting April 14th.
