TAPLEJUNG: Taplejung district has seen significant investment in hydropower projects across various rivers, including Tamor, the district's main river.
Officials have shared that 16 hydroelectricity projects are currently under construction on Tamor River, with an expected power generation capacity of as much as 1,654.51 megawatts (MW).
According to the Department of Electricity Development, 14 of the hydropower projects on the river are located exclusively in the Phaktanglung Rural Municipality, with two other projects in other local areas.
In addition, four hydropower projects are being constructed on Mewakhola River, which flows through the Mikwakhola Rural Municipality. These projects in Mewakhola are expected to produce 178.42MW of power.
The Department also stated that four projects are under development on the Kabeli River, and these projects are expected to generate 95.43MW of power.
