KATHMANDU: Nepal and China have inked two significant agreements in the presence of Finance Minister Barsha Man Pun.
Secretary at the Ministry of Finance, Madhu Kumar Marasini, Secretary at the Ministry of Health and Population, Roshan Pokharel, and Chairman of China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA), Luo Zhaohui, signed the agreements during a programme held at the Finance Ministry today.
The agreement with the Finance Ministry pertains to cooperation in human resources development for a global development initiative, while the agreement with the Health Ministry is related to bone marrow transplantation. China had pledged to provide support to initiate a bone marrow transplant service in Nepal during Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal's visit to China in September 2023.
As per the agreement, China will offer financial assistance to BP Koirala Memorial Hospital for the operation of the bone marrow transplant service. On this occasion, Finance Minister Pun expressed his gratitude to China for its ongoing support in Nepal's development efforts.
He noted that Nepal and China have been progressing in mutual cooperation, sincerely respecting each other's aspirations and sensitivities. The Finance Minister emphasised the need to implement the remaining bilateral agreements signed during the high-level visits of both countries.
He shared that China is at the forefront among the countries for foreign investment in the world and, as Nepal is hosting an investment summit, he encouraged China to augment its assistance and investment in Nepal in the forthcoming days.
Similarly, Luo Zhaohui, who is leading the Chinese delegation, stated that Nepal is a good friend of China and that China is always with Nepal in its development. He pledged to implement every aspect of the agreements signed during Chinese President Xi Jinping's visit to Nepal, and Prime Minister Dahal's visit to China.
Stating that they are currently in Nepal in the context of the Nepal Investment Summit, he mentioned that Nepal will receive Chinese investment during the summit.
Earlier today, Chairman of China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA), Luo Zhaohui, paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal at the latter's official residence in Baluwatar, Kathmandu.
