KATHMANDU: The Ministry of Communication and Information Technology has expressed serious concern over the disruption of internet services by some privately-owned internet service providers.

In a press statement issued on Thursday evening, the Ministry's Assistant Spokesperson, Bishal Sapkota, urged all internet service providers not to disrupt this essential service.

The Ministry has also requested ISPs and network service providers to promptly pay the rural telecommunications development fees and royalties due to the state, as per the law. These fees were previously collected from internet service users.

The Ministry has stated that the majority of the 122 internet service providers and 23 network service providers registered with the Nepal Telecommunications Authority (NTA) have already paid the fees as required by law. The Ministry regularly makes recommendations for them regarding foreign currency exchange, based on the recommendations of the NTA.
