KATHMANDU: Finance Minister Barsha Man Pun has stated that the government has effectively communicated its commitment to creating a favourable environment for the private sector. This was further emphasised by the active involvement of the private sector in the recently conducted Nepal Investment Summit.
In a meeting with representatives from Revenue Advisory Committee and private sector umbrella organisations at the Ministry of Finance on Sunday, Minister Pun reaffirmed the government's commitment to fostering a business-friendly environment for the private sector.
He said eight separate laws have been amended through an ordinance to create a more conducive climate for investment. He opined that a partnership between the state and private sector could create a favourable scenario to mitigate the current economic slowdown.
"We highlighted private sector in all sessions, including the closing session of the investment summit. The amendments to the laws, aimed at both domestic and foreign investors, have created a positive environment. We have signalled to the world that our government is supportive of the private sector," the Finance Minister declared.
Minister Pun argued that the economy could be stimulated by increasing productivity through collaboration with private sector. He also mentioned that the government has implemented a policy to ensure the competitiveness of the private sector.
On the occasion, Minister Pun noted that any alterations to the tax rate would be determined based on necessity and relevance.
