CIM holds 'Human Resource Summit 2024'

KATHMANDU: Chamber of Industries Morang (CIM) held a two-day Human Resource Summit with the aim of enhancing the growth and capacity building of the workforce in the industrial sector, and creating a dignified workplace.

Kathmandu University (KU) Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Bhola Thapa and Purbanchal University (PU) Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Biju Thapaliya inaugurated the summit, on Friday.

During the inauguration ceremony, CIM President Rakesh Surana expressed his belief that this summit, being held for the first time by CIM, will contribute to the development of the workforce in the local industry and business sector, boost productivity, and foster an industrial environment. He stated that this summit was organised to transform and refine its programmes to create a respectful working environment, not only for overseas employment but also within the country's industry and business sector, thereby creating new employment opportunities.

CIM President Surana expressed his enthusiasm about the eager participation in this summit. He expressed his belief that the programme will enable the intellectual class to create a favourable working environment in the industry and business sector by sharing experiences related to the practices of multinational companies and respected business classes of Nepal, and by conveying the message that there is a conducive environment for work in Nepal, thereby fostering positive feelings among the youth.

Chief guest, Vice Chancellor Thapa, underscored the need for collaboration between industry and academia for the development of industrial manpower. He emphasised the need for skilled manpower to ensure economic sustainability and prosperity, and suggested that universities require input from the private sector for curriculum development. He expressed the view that the country could flourish through comprehensive improvements in manpower development and optimal use of available resources.

Special guest, PU's Vice Chancellor Thapaliya, suggested that future strategies should take into account international experiences, the country's needs, and the available manpower. He stated that PU is prepared to collaborate with the private sector to produce skilled manpower and expressed the belief that everyone's cooperation is necessary for industrial development.

At the summit, CIM invited academics from the education sector to discuss the development of the relationship between universities and the educational sector, the role of universities in producing highly skilled workers needed for industries, and the changes required in the curriculum to prepare the necessary manpower for local industries.

The summit, which comprised 11 different sessions, discussed the efforts and experiences of Indian multinational companies in the field of human resource development, the impact of technological development on human resources, achievements and their utilisation, as well as the efforts made by prestigious Nepalese companies in this field, and the prevailing Act, along with the state of compliance established by the law.

The summit featured presentations on the role of industry in the development of skilled manpower, the contribution that industrial trainees can make in the field of human resources, the quality management system to be adopted while complying with international standards, and the role of industry personnel in the development of the value-added chain.

Motivational speakers expounded upon 12 formulas of success. Additionally, the programme concentrated on the minimum standards to be upheld in the field of human resource development, both nationally and internationally. Networking programmes, such as B2B Birat Bazaar, were organised to cultivate market recognition and business relations among entrepreneurs.

The summit witness participation from directors, managers, and human resource heads from various industrial establishments located in the Sunsari Morang Industrial corridor, academics from a range of universities, and representatives of development partner organisations. Human resource heads of multinational companies from India, along with representatives from development partner organisations such as the International Labour Organization (ILO), Swiss Development Cooperation, German Support, ENSSURE Helvetas, and NVQS, will present working papers.
