KATHMANDU: The Advertisement Board has stated that misleading advertisements have been discovered in various media, including social platforms, and has appealed to everyone to refrain from this practice.
The Board noted that during its monitoring of various media, it found misleading advertisements selling goods and articles, including several types of tea, oil, shampoo, and drugs, at exorbitant prices. These advertisements claimed that the drugs could cure any type of health issue.
The Board's spokesperson, Nishan Raj Gautam, pointed out that even the names of the individuals and companies producing these goods or services were not mentioned in these advertisements. The Board has also received complaints about such advertisements.
According to him, Clause 15 (b) of the Advertisement (Regulation) Act, 2076 BS stipulates that any audio, visual, and audio-visual advertisement material should be vetted by the Board before being disseminated.
In addition, he mentioned that besides the provisions made in Clause (5) of the Regulations for Regulating Advertisements, 2077 BS, Clause 9 of the Act also requires the name and address of the advertiser to be clearly stated.
The Advertisement Board spokesperson reiterated that the media have been urged to promptly stop broadcasting or publishing advertisement materials that contravene these statutory provisions, and to publicise such advertisement materials only after obtaining permission from the Board.
He warned of initiating legal action if the advertisements continue to be publicised without obtaining permission.
