MANGALBARE, ILAM: Ilam Municipality is preparing to host an international tea festival from June 8 to 10. The three-day festival will take place in Ilam Bazar.
Kedar Thapa, Mayor of Ilam Municipality, stated that the international tea festival is being organised to showcase the quality of Nepali tea to the world. He added that the event will see the participation of tea industrialists, farmers, entrepreneurs, and international connoisseurs.
"We are organising the international tea festival under the Municipality's leadership to address the complaints that tea farmers and traders were forced to sell their produce at a lower price due to inadequate publicity, despite Nepal's tea being considered organic and of high quality," Mayor Thapa said. He added that tea could become a major source of foreign currency earnings if the export of Nepal-grown tea could be increased to foreign countries.
According to him, the festival is being organised with the aim of marketing tea and encouraging farmers towards tea cultivation. Mayor Thapa expressed that the festival will aid in marketing Nepali tea in the international market.
