KATHMANDU: Member of the House of Representatives, Gagan Kumar Thapa, has asserted that the savings of those impacted by cooperatives ought to be refunded.

During the discussion on the annual estimates of revenue and expenditure for the fiscal year 2024/25 at the HoR meeting today, lawmaker Thapa stressed that savers in cooperatives should be reimbursed without delay.

Thapa, who also serves as general secretary for Nepali Congress, suggested that the Parliamentary Investigation Committee on Cooperatives, formed on May 28, should undertake a comprehensive review of the issues to reach the conclusion.

He maintained that whilst a large number of cooperatives are operating successfully, a handful have marred the sector and have been caught up in cases of fraud and embezzlement. As such, he called on the committee to examine these issues with great care.
